Whereabouts

I've been at an HOH event in Johns Island, SC since Thursday. Now I'm in VA Beach visiting Chrissy and Bobby. Will be back in Lynchburg tonight. Unrecognizable due to overwhelming, amazing, new tan/burn combo. Will most likely meet husband on return drive.

Factoid

There are 5 animal shelters for every 1 homeless shelter in the U.S.

Every day of the year, 800,000 Americans are homeless. About 1/3 of them are children.

Recommendation

If you're in the sun at all this summer, I highly recommend Banana Boat's Aloe After Sun Lotion. It's $5 at Walmart. Supreme at cooling burned skin and keeping your tan, while also giving you a lasting summer scent.

That's a lot of potatoes!

My kiddies gleaned over 100,000 pounds of potatoes last week for the Eastern Shore Food Bank. That's a lot of potatoes! I daresay we had fun doing it, too. Both camps went very well and had almost perfect weather. Someone brought a baby to the weekend camp and I'm still not sure why. It's probably the least conducive environment for a 5-month-old baby that there is in the U.S. Anyway, all survived and many hungry people were fed. I made some new teenybopper friends, too, so watch as my myspace numbers multiply exponentially and the average age of my "friends" plummets to 16.

Now I'm in Richmond for 2 days. Babysat for Libby last night and, as usual, became more obsessed with her. She is crawling now and dances (including a nice booty shake she should trademark) whenever her toys' music starts playing. Obviously blood related to me! Tomorrow I'll see my stepmom, stepsister, stepniece, and 2 of my stepnephews, and then head back to Lynchburg. I can't wait to be home, even if it's just for 3 days before I leave again!

I'm heading to SC Friday morning unless someone between Lynchburg and John's Island, SC has a place for me to crash Thursday night... email me if you'll be around, I'd love to see some NC or SC friends on work time!

I thought those of you who knew me during the "stalking scrapbook" formative years would appreciate that!

Back in... red, white, and blue

No, I was not eaten by the Nut Lady... I survived the week and am now in the 'Noke for a couple days of relaxation! The week in D.C. was actually quite great. Well, except for being soaked through to the skin 3 different times while handing out sandwiches in parks, one room flooding, one morning without electricity, a case of pink eye, a case of the barfs, the metro closing, and a whole day's activity being cancelled from the rain. I mean really, other than that, it was great! haha. The kids that came were awesome and we did a lot of fun and eye-opening things... worked at different soup kitchens, met with other nonprofits, had some panel speakers, met with our legislators on Capitol Hill about hunger and poverty legislation, etc. I think everyone had a good experience... except maybe the barf guy. The Nut Lady definitely did! She was also much cooler than expected. Well, maybe "cooler" isn't the right word. But I enjoyed her.

For the past couple of days I've been destressing - not to be confused with distressing - mostly laying next to my mom's pool reading. For those of you who know her, they're moving, yet again. The new house is off of Brambleton near VA Western. Anyway, it has a pool and I don't have to clean it, so I'm a big fan! Don't worry, my legs still reflect light. Why is it that I can no longer tan now that I actually want to? Sigh.

Heading back to the 'Burg tonight. Working tomorrow and Thursday, then off to the Eastern Shore of VA for two more camps Friday. If I start talking like teenagers after this summer of camps, somebody alert me. I already feel a strange hankering to watch "My So-Called Life" reruns.

Oh yeah, happy 4th of July!
