Addendum

p.s. In previous post, do not take "Promiscuous Girl" reference to mean I am acting the floozy these days. That is not the case. I am referring to the back-and-forth game of the guy and girl in the song trying to figure out what the H is going on between them.

p.p.s. Yes that's right I actually listen to lyrics of hip hop songs. And yes, that could be a problem.

CAFFEINE!

Bear with me, as this post has no point. I am just hyped up on caffeine and stress and impending decisions, and these factors combined with my current boredom at work equals drumming thrumming drumming fingers. I figured, why not at least tease you, even if it ends up being a waste of 30 seconds of your life to skim this?

Things in my life that are completely up in the air right now:

- My condo closing. It's supposed to happen at 4:00 today, but as it is 3:43 and The People are still working on stuff, I'm assuming it is postponed. Hopefully it will not be cancelled altogether, because that would lead me to...
- My housing situation for the next 3 days being totally up in the air. Even if I do successfully close today or tomorrow, I can't figure out how to move most efficiently. My only definite moving volunteer now has broken fingers on both hands.
- My job. My position is as stable as it can get right now despite the ever-present fact that it is grant-based; however, which schools I'm going to be in STARTING IN A WEEK is a toss-up and is apparently remaining that way for another 4-6 weeks. Interesting, right?
- My love life. {Insert twilight zone music here, with a brief interlude of "Promiscuous Girl" by Nelly Furtado}
- My bank account. See entire section above.

For Sale

Definitely just saw an ad for a "baby crip" for sale. Pretty sure they mean crib, but there's a 1% chance that this is a ghetto call-out for infant recruits.

Moving: Pros and Woes

Woe: dealing with slower-than-molasses mortgage lender who is trying to mess with my chi.

Pro: having to eat up all the ice cream in the freezer.

The Joys of Craigslist

I don't know how people moved before Craigslist. It is so useful! But have no fear, this post is not about how I have found great deals on the site or made some cash selling my own junk (although both statements are, in fact, true).

The most necessary part of Craigslist is actually its usefulness as a procrastination tool. I mean, I didn't know I had the opportunity to buy a rooster in Richmond with just a few clicks of the mouse. Nor did I realize the extent of people's horrible taste in decor(just saw a dazzling ad for a rug with a giant tiger staring up out of it). Whenever I'm about to pack a box, I can just slip downstairs, turn on my laptop, and within minutes I have fully convinced myself that it is absolutely necessary and efficient (both time- and cost-wise) to be on Craigslist instead of actually being productive. I'm on the verge of becoming one of those CL addicts who buys tons of stuff she doesn't need just because it's only $2. But don't worry - one more reply to my furniture ad on there that starts with "Need money? Let me tell you my story" will probably swear me off the site just in the nick of time.

Strikes 2 & 3... before 10 a.m.

When I posted "strike 1" on my previous entry, I was just kidding and did not really expect to have strikes 2 or 3 take place. Definitely not before 10 a.m. anyway! How about I just poured [my replacement, non-O.J.] coffee on my keyboard. Now I have just discovered that I have my shirt on backwards. IT IS SUCH A MONDAY!

Good morning!

You know it's going to be a good day when you think, "Why is the milk orange?" when pouring it into your coffee and then realize it is orange juice. Strike 1.

On the up-date

This weekend has felt amazingly like a weekend. Kind of bizarre how normal it has felt - no traveling, right amount of relaxing vs. busyness, got things done around the house. I've packed about 80% of my things up, which feels good. Still don't know how I'm moving or even if I'm doing it Friday or Saturday, but hey what's life without a few unknowns?

I think it might be safe to sum up my current life with a short but true anecdote: tonight I went on a date with a guy I really like, but he assumed I was paying for dinner (don't mind paying, but the assumption was not appreciated) and then afterward we went to Kmart for entertainment.

Kind of like... feels like I'm on the right path, but possibly this path is in the Twilight Zone.

Not bloggy-woggy, but on the upswing

Several factors have combined to make me feel zip on the blog idea front lately. I found out Monday that one of our oldest (as in longest-term) family friends has leukemia. They are still doing lots of tests, but the outlook is not good. She already started chemo less than 24 hours after the diagnosis, which is of course very aggressive. The good news is, she's feeling very positive. Please keep her (Carrie) in your prayers, as well as her parents, Roger and Linda. They already lost Carrie's brother in a car accident several years ago, and I can't even imagine how scared they must be that they might lose their other child. So please pray for all of them, wisdom and strength and healing and understanding and peace.

This all came the week of major family drama in a friend's life and also the 8th anniversary of my dad's death. Fun times!!

BUT I am currently in an air-conditioned office with internet access and not a whole lot to do, at least not with any deadlines. So I have decided to turn on "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" in the background while I do filing. I find this completely appropriate, and - true to my predictions - it is pleasing me greatly. Perhaps I shall even find something funny to blog about soon. Peace out.

Delilaaaaaah... love someone tonight.

(Sorry if I got that jingle in your head.)

I was chillin in my room tonight and went to turn on the TV for some background entertainment while I updated my Craigslist ads. Note that my TV is not only unplugged but is downstairs in the pile'o'crap for sale. D'oh! So I was relegated to using my alarm clock radio, which happens to only get the country station and some kind of easy listening thing. I was in more of an easy mood than a banjo picking mood, so I ended up spending some QT with Delilah.

This poor woman just called in to request a song for her boyfriend. Well, he was her boyfriend before she called in; I don't know about now. Delilah tore that shit UP! She pointed out the following flaws in the 2 minute phone conversation she had with this stranger:
- He hasn't said he loves her
- He is 11 years younger so they are probably incompatible
- Due to the aforementioned age difference, he is probably going to want someone who is younger and will give him babies
- She can't really be sure she loves him if she isn't hyperactively screaming about it on the phone with Big D
- It is long distance

So she says all these things and then says, "Ok let me pick out a song for you." I swear I was scared for this lady! But she picked "Realize" by Colby Kalle (SP?). Although, now that I'm typing that, maybe she meant that in a mean way, like "why don't you realize your relationship is going nowhere?" haha.

People are wack!

Since I'm getting ready to move, I've spent the last week digging up crap that I need to get rid of instead of moving. Picture frames, house decorations, extra bedspreads, candles... everything I don't currently use that has no sentimental value for me is getting ditched, since my new place is super small.

Who do I turn to for all my purging needs? Craig and his wonderful List. I've already sold a couple of things, but most of my stuff is just that - *stuff* - that will end up being Goodwilled (yes, I'm making it a verb... you know you like it) if no one pays me $2 for it. Alas, in a last ditch effort to make 50 cents I am having a small moving sale tonight for a couple of hours.

I posted an ad on Craigslist for it today. This wackass lady emailed me directly afterwards, saying that she has tickets for something else tonight, ending with "Advise, please." Um, advise you for what? Who are you? What do you want? I'm just wondering now if she has emailed every other CL poster: "I see you're selling a bed. I already have one. What should I do?" "This used dog bed looks great. I don't have a dog, though. Should I get one?" "I noticed your ad for a nursing assistant. I faint at the sight of blood. Advise, please."

WTF, MTV?

Has anyone ever been a bigger asshole than Joey on Real World Cancun? I am enjoying my little marathon-in-pajamas today, but he is making me sick with his meanness to the girl with the cutting problem. Who says these things??

On the upswing...

... but still a little ticked. Immediate boy issue resolved, but still desperately in need of chocolate to complete the bad mood remedy.

Still, my feelings last night / this morning made me think: why do we deal with so much crap? Granted, in this case (as in, to be honest with myself, probably many others) I overanalyzed and overreacted and generally took other frustrations out on one poor little man who made just a tiny little slip-up. But this case aside, in my life I have dealt with a lot of B.S. from guys, and I have dealt with a lot of friends dealing with B.S. from guys. It's all part of life, I guess... and not to say guys have it much easier dealing with girls.

But this morning, I was stewing in feminist pissiness and these women came into the office to sign up for our bus rider program to go visit - you guessed it - Some Guy in jail. After that, three more girls came in to sign up to visit Some Other Guy in jail. When I work Saturdays doing the bus program (which is only occasional, since usually I work with the kiddies during the week), it is 95% people going to visit Some Guy - brothers, boyfriends, husbands, dads, sons, grandsons who are in jail or prison. Only a handful of my kids have moms in jail; most of their incarcerated parents are dads.

Obviously we women will continue to put up with guys' B.S., or the human population will literally cease to exist. But must they continue to be so socially and emotionally challenged??

Current *poop* list

Things that annoy me right now: including, but not limited to, boys.

To balance out the glasses-wearing...

I obviously have to do something super cool. I chose in this case to buy a condo. That's right... I'm going to be a homeowner! Or at least a "home the size of a closet" owner! I'm super excited. I made an offer a couple of weeks ago, but it wasn't accepted until Friday when I was at the beach. Haven't worked out the details yet since I just got back in town, but hopefully our original closing date of August 26th will still work out! I'm trying to be all stable and such. Is it working? Only time and my therapist will tell. (Ha.)

Just call me "Four Eyes"

I'm officially a glasses-wearer now. I went to the eye doctor a couple weeks ago. I hadn't been since I lived in Boston (so, 2005). When I told him I only wear glasses to drive and I don't even HAVE to do that, he laughed in my face. Literally. He then told me, "The only reason you're not bumping into your furniture is because you've memorized where it is" (at which point I thought about telling him that, alas, I do actually bump into my furniture, but I just didn't want to give him the pleasure). So I sucked it up and went to order glasses, and today is my first full day of wearing them. I have gotten no comments on them yet, as I have only seen 2 people all day. They have a little bling on the sides, which I'm not a fan of... but Chrissy says it's not too bad, and frankly I like them anyway. Plus, I can see!

She's baaaaaaaack!

Well, I'm back from vay-cay. I just read my last entry and thought you might be interested to know that my suspicions were not unfounded. I went to bed shortly after typing that entry (proving that, yes, I am a wimp), only to receive a knock on my door 10 minutes later that proved that the family had indeed been discussing my wimpiness on the porch. My stepbrother kindly informed me that if I didn't get out of bed and come back down to drink with them, they were going to do me bodily harm. They don't kid about this kind of thing, and since I didn't fancy being wrestled by former football players, having my eyebrows shaved, or being thrown in the pool, I succumbed to the peer pressure. It was actually a good time, although it didn't end until we literally watched the sunrise, at which point my brother was shipped off to Savannah to catch the train back to Richmond and the rest of us went to sleep. I'm getting tired just thinking about it. Is it bad to take a coffee break when you've been at your desk less than 30 minutes?
